India Pushes Clean Energy Drive, Aims for 500 GW by 2030: Pralhad Joshi

New Delhi, April 29, 2026 India is significantly accelerating its transition towards clean energy, with an ambitious target of reaching 500 gigawatts (GW) of installed power capacity by 2030. The initiative reflects the country’s broader commitment to strengthening renewable energy infrastructure and reducing dependence on fossil fuels as part of its long-term sustainability goals. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that India has already achieved its goal of sourcing 50 per cent of its electricity from non-fossil fuel sources — five years ahead of schedule — demonstrating the government’s ability to surpass its own targets. He made these remarks while addressing the ‘Resilient Futures Summit 2026’ in New Delhi. He further highlighted that nearly 30 per cent of India’s electricity now comes from a mix of renewable sources, including wind, solar, battery storage, and pumped storage. These developments underline the steady expansion of clean and diversified energy systems in the country. Overall, India’s continued push in the green energy sector reflects a strong policy focus on sustainability and energy security. With consistent progress and large-scale renewable adoption, the country is positioning itself as a key global player in the clean energy transition.
