The day marks the anniversary of Robert Koch’s discovery of the TB-causing bacterium in 1882, a breakthrough that laid the foundation for diagnosing and treating the illness. In her message, President Droupadi Murmu highlighted that tuberculosis continues to remain a major public health challenge, affecting millions of people worldwide. She acknowledged the progress made under India’s TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, noting improvements in early diagnosis, free treatment, nutritional support, and overall patient care. The President emphasised that these achievements reflect the country’s strong commitment under the National TB Elimination Programme. She called upon all stakeholders, including healthcare workers, policymakers, and citizens, to work together with renewed determination to completely eliminate tuberculosis.
