President Murmu, PM Modi Mourn Indian Tourists Killed in Vietnam Boat Tragedy

Lucknow, 12 Jul, 2026 07:29 AMNew Delhi, July 11, 2026 India's top leadership has expressed deep grief after a tragic boat accident near Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island claimed the lives of several Indian tourists. As rescue operations continue, the Government of India, through its diplomatic missions in Vietnam, is extending assistance to affected families while remaining in close coordination with Vietnamese authorities to monitor the situation. According to the Embassy of India in Hanoi, the boat carrying 32 Indian tourists capsized near Phu Quoc Island. Vietnamese authorities are continuing search and rescue operations, while Indian officials are verifying details related to the victims and those affected. The Embassy later confirmed that Vietnamese authorities had shared the names of 15 Indian nationals who lost their lives. To support affected families, dedicated control rooms have been established by the Embassy in Hanoi and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City. The Embassy said, “In order to provide information and assistance to affected families, a Control Room at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City has been setup which can be reached at : +84 36 281 7930, +84 91 552 37 14 and +84 33 452 0414. A Control room has been established in Hanoi and can be reached at +84 91 308 9165. We are available for any assistance and queries.” Expressing sorrow over the tragedy, President Droupadi Murmu said, “Saddened by the news of a boat accident in Vietnam in which many Indian nationals lost their lives. My deep condolences to the grieving families. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his condolences, saying, “Extremely saddened to learn about the tragic news of a boat accident involving Indian nationals near Phu Quoc, Vietnam. My sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. My prayers for the early recovery of the injured survivors. Our Embassy and Consulate are providing all possible assistance. Our officials are also in close contact with the Vietnamese authorities.” Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed their condolences, offering prayers for the injured and support to the bereaved families. Indian diplomatic missions in Vietnam said they will continue working with local authorities, provide timely updates, and ensure all possible assistance reaches the affected Indian nationals and their families.
