During the Monsoon Session on Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla praised the performances of Indian athletes and said, “I am happy to inform the House that Indian athletes have delivered an excellent performance at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Scotland. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has won the gold medal in the women’s 48kg category, while Rishikant Singh and Raja Muthupandi have secured silver medals. Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar has also brought glory to the country by winning a bronze medal.” He also appreciated the athletes' commitment, hard work, and discipline, acknowledging the valuable support of their families and coaches. Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu created history by claiming her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women's 48kg event. In the men's competitions, Chanambam Rishikant Singh secured silver in the 60kg category, while Raja Muthupandi earned silver in the 65kg division, taking India's weightlifting medal count to three for the day. India also celebrated success in para powerlifting, with 28-year-old Jhandu Kumar winning the bronze medal in the men's heavyweight event after producing a best lift of 190kg and scoring 130.9 points.
