National Conference of Women Panchayat Leaders to Be Held in Delhi Under Sashakt Panchayat–Netri Abhiyan

New Delhi | 10 March 2026 The Ministry of Panchayati Raj will organise a one-day national conference of Women Elected Representatives (WERs) of panchayats under the Sashakt Panchayat–Netri Abhiyan on March 11 in New Delhi. The conference aims to highlight the growing role of women in grassroots governance and provide a platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing and leadership development among women representatives from across the country. The event will be attended by several senior leaders including Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, Union Minister of Panchayati Raj, along with Annpurna Devi, Union Minister for Women and Child Development. Ministers of State S. P. Singh Baghel and Raksha Nikhil Khadse will also participate. Around 700 attendees, including women elected representatives, officials and representatives from UN agencies, are expected to be present. Senior officials such as Vivek Bhardwaj, Secretary in the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, will also take part in the conference. The gathering will mark one year since the launch of the Sashakt Panchayat–Netri Abhiyan and will focus on strengthening women-led governance at the village level. During the programme, outstanding Beacon Women Panchayat Leaders selected by state and Union Territory governments will be honoured. The ministry will also release a compendium documenting best practices of model women-friendly gram panchayats and stories that highlight women as key drivers of change in rural governance. Two technical sessions will be held as part of the conference, focusing on women’s leadership in local decision-making and the development of model women-friendly gram panchayats. Under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, the ministry has trained more than 7.18 lakh women elected representatives during 2025–26. In addition, 744 model women-friendly gram panchayats have been identified across 32 states and Union Territories, with progress being monitored through dedicated dashboards covering areas such as governance participation, education, health, economic opportunities and safety.
