Nation Pays Tribute to Sushma Swaraj's Enduring Legacy

New Delhi, August 06, 2026 The death anniversary of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj prompted leaders across the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to remember her enduring contributions to India's foreign policy, parliamentary democracy, and public service. Recognised for her compassionate leadership, powerful oratory, and commitment to the nation, Swaraj's legacy continues to inspire political leaders and citizens alike. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage to the late leader, saying, “A humble tribute on the death anniversary of Sushma Swaraj ji-an eloquent orator, a sensitive leader of the people, a former External Affairs Minister, and a recipient of the ‘Padma Vibhushan’ who regarded service to the nation as a sacred duty, public welfare as a solemn resolve, and India’s prestige as a responsibility.” He further added, “Her life stands as a shining chapter of devotion to the nation, public service, and the dignity of noble democratic values.” External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also remembered her on social media, stating, “Fondly remember Sushma Swaraj ji on her Punya Tithi today. Her grace, warmth and presence are deeply missed.” Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also paid tribute on social media, saying, “Remembering a distinguished parliamentarian, former External Affairs Minister, and Padma Vibhushan Hon. Sushma Swaraj Ji, on her SmrutiDin.” Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi recalled Swaraj's contributions to Indian diplomacy and public life, stating, “Remembering Padma Vibhushan awardee and former External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj Ji on her death anniversary. A leader of rare conviction and compassion, she combined strength with humility and dedicated every moment of her public life to the service of the nation. Her remarkable contributions to Indian diplomacy, parliamentary traditions and public life continue to be cherished with immense respect. Humble tributes to an extraordinary leader whose legacy lives on.” Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy also paid tribute, saying, “Humble tributes to former Union Minister and senior BJP leader, Smt. Sushma Swaraj Ji, on her Punyatithi. An exceptional parliamentarian, eloquent orator, astute leader and compassionate administrator, Sushma Ji dedicated her life to public service with unwavering commitment. Fondly remembered as ‘Telangana Chinnamma’, her invaluable contribution and steadfast support during the formation of the State of Telangana will always hold a special place in the hearts of its people.” He further added, “Her legacy of selfless service, humility and dedication to the nation will continue to inspire generations. Om Shanti.” Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also honoured the former Union Minister, saying, “A humble tribute to the revered former Union Minister, former Chief Minister of Delhi, and Padma Vibhushan recipient, Smt. Sushma Swaraj ji, on her death anniversary.” She further said, “Her deep bond with the people of Delhi, her warm smile, her powerful oratory, and her nature of embracing the joys and sorrows of every individual as her own made her an extraordinary mass leader. From serving as Chief Minister to External Affairs Minister, she discharged every responsibility with a spirit of service, sensitivity, and human values. For any Indian in distress anywhere in the world, a single message from her became a source of reassurance and confidence.” Rekha Gupta added, “Her dedication to public service, her loyalty to the nation, and the sensitivity with which she touched people’s lives will always be remembered. Her life will continue to inspire generations to come.” The tributes collectively reflected the lasting respect Sushma Swaraj continues to command for her dedicated service, compassionate leadership, and lasting contribution to India's public life.
