Thousands of people gathered in Pune on Thursday night to pay their final respects to veteran actor Nana Patekar, whose passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Indian cinema. The 75-year-old actor was cremated with full state honours at his farmhouse in Donje village, as fans and mourners assembled to bid him an emotional farewell.
The funeral ceremony was marked by emotional scenes, with mourners chanting “Nana Amar Rahe” in tribute to the late actor. His son, Malhar Patekar, lit the funeral pyre and performed the final rites. The ceremony honoured Nana Patekar’s contribution to cinema and his enduring public presence.
Several well-known figures from the film industry, politics and public life attended the last rites. Among those present were actors Jackie Shroff and Makarand Anaspure, Ramdas Athawale, Murlidhar Mohol and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, who joined others in paying their respects.
The gathering reflected the respect and affection Nana Patekar commanded among admirers and people from different walks of life. As family members, colleagues and fans came together to honour his memory, the veteran actor was laid to rest with state honours, bringing an emotional farewell to a celebrated figure in Indian cinema.
