NEET Leak Row Sparks Political Heat Over Students’ Future

New Delhi, May 17, 2026 The NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy has intensified into a major political issue, raising concerns over the credibility of India’s examination system and the future of lakhs of medical aspirants. The row has triggered sharp reactions from the opposition, with questions being raised over accountability and the effectiveness of reforms introduced after previous examination controversies. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded the removal of Dharmendra Pradhan, accusing the government of failing to protect students’ interests. Rahul Gandhi said the paper leak had “betrayed” students and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to either sack Dharmendra Pradhan or “take responsibility” himself. The remarks came as protests and criticism grew over the alleged leak linked to individuals associated with the National Testing Agency. The controversy deepened after Dharmendra Pradhan acknowledged a “breach in command chain” despite reforms introduced after the 2024 NEET row. The Centre has ordered a re-examination on June 21 and transferred the probe to the CBI, while assuring strict action against those responsible for the leak and irregularities in the examination process. With student organisations and medical groups staging protests in Delhi and demanding structural reforms in the examination system, the issue has once again highlighted concerns over transparency and trust in competitive exams. The developments are expected to keep the NEET controversy at the centre of national debate in the coming days.
