Gurugram Hit-and-Run: Accused Driver Detained in Rajasthan

New Delhi, September 15, 2026 The Gurugram hit-and-run case involving woman sports bike rider Sia has taken a significant turn after police detained accused driver Kalyan Bainsla from Dausa, Rajasthan, on Tuesday. The action came after CCTV footage captured the crash on Golf Course Road, showing a white sedan suddenly moving towards Sia and hitting her before leaving the spot. Sia, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown off her bike, while her Aprilia RS 457 slid across the road, sending sparks into the air. Gurugram Police said the CCTV findings led to an attempt-to-murder charge against Bainsla, an offence that carries a provision of up to 10 years in prison. Before the accused was detained, Sia had described the incident as a deliberate hit-and-run and questioned how the driver could leave after hitting her. "He thinks he will just hit a woman and speed away and nothing would happen to him," Sia told before the police detained the accused. "It was a clear hit-and-run and attempt-to-murder case," she said. Her father, Rohshan Chauhan, also said the family "will not rest until the accused is punished". The accused later appeared in a media interview from an undisclosed location and claimed that he did not know whether the rider was a man or woman. He alleged that only one side of the incident had been presented and questioned why videos involving one of Sia's male friends had not emerged. "I felt very sorry for that girl," he is heard saying in the interview. Sia responded by questioning why he did not stop if he genuinely felt sorry for her. "If you really felt sorry for me, then why didn't you stop? It was your responsibility. If you hit me, you should have stopped and checked whether I was injured," she said. Sia also stressed that the collision could have resulted in far more serious consequences. "I could have suffered much more serious injuries. My bones could have been broken. I could have died on the spot," she said. Rejecting the accused's expression of sympathy, she added, "This display of sympathy does not suit him. The videos clearly show how they fled. They did not stop even for a second to check whether the person they had hit was alive or dead." With Bainsla now detained, the investigation is set to focus further on the circumstances captured in the CCTV footage and the events surrounding the crash. For Sia and her family, the demand remains clear: the driver should face legal consequences for leaving the scene after the collision.
