Global Fight Against Drugs Urged by Amit Shah

New Delhi, May 15, 2026 India has renewed its strong stand against narcotics trafficking, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging nations to come together for a united global crackdown on the drug trade. Speaking at the RN Kao Memorial Lecture, Shah described narcotics as a growing international threat that affects security, economies, and future generations. He stressed that no country can tackle the issue alone, making global cooperation the need of the hour. Addressing diplomats and officials from several countries, Shah said drug trafficking has become closely linked with terrorism, organised crime, and illegal financial networks. He called for stronger intelligence sharing, coordinated action between nations, and stricter laws to ensure traffickers do not benefit from legal loopholes across borders. According to him, a fragmented response will not be enough to defeat a problem that operates beyond national boundaries. Shah also highlighted India’s intensified efforts against cross-border criminal networks, stating that security agencies are working with a zero-tolerance approach toward narcotics. He noted that India has strengthened cooperation with friendly nations in recent years to take action against international criminals and disrupt illegal trafficking routes. Reaffirming the vision of a “Drug Free India by 2047,” Shah said the country is determined to ensure that India neither becomes a hub nor a transit point for narcotics trade. His remarks reflected India’s broader push for collective international responsibility in combating a threat that continues to impact societies worldwide.
