Lucknow, 23 Feb, 2026 08:46 PMJammu & Kashmir | 23 Feb 2026 Security agencies have launched an investigation after two balloons carrying US and Pakistani currency were found near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the recovery was reported on Monday, and officials are currently examining whether the currency notes are genuine or fake. Police sources said the balloons were discovered close to the border, raising concerns due to recent security incidents in border areas. “Investigations are underway to determine whether the currency is fake or not,” Jammu and Kashmir Police said, as quoted by news agency. Officials have not ruled out any angle and are treating the matter with caution. The incident comes a day after another suspicious object was found in Uttar Pradesh. A balloon bearing the name of Pakistan International Airlines (PIL) was recovered from an Indian Air Force technical area in Agra. Assistant Commissioner of Police Gaurav Singh confirmed that a case was registered on February 12 at Shahganj police station following a complaint from the Indian Air Force. He said, “A balloon shaped like an aircraft, coloured green and white, was found in the technical area of the Air Force premises.” He added that a thread was attached to the balloon, but “no device or suspicious material was found”. These incidents follow reports of drone sightings along the India-Pakistan border earlier this year. In January, drones suspected to be from Pakistan were seen in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district and parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief of the Army Staff had earlier warned Pakistan to control such intrusions, stating that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains sensitive but firmly under control. Meanwhile, Pakistan also violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Kupwara district last Friday, when PoK posts fired small arms at Indian positions. The firing later stopped, and officials confirmed there was no loss of life or injury.
