Five Indians Killed, One Missing Amid Escalating West Asia Conflict: Government

New Delhi | 14 March 2026 India’s Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that five Indian nationals have lost their lives and one person remains missing amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The update was shared by Aseem Mahajan during an inter-ministerial briefing in New Delhi on Saturday. Officials said Indian diplomatic missions in the region are working continuously to assist affected citizens and their families. During the briefing, Mahajan said, "We have five Indians who have lost their lives and one who is missing in earlier incident. Our missions in Oman, Iraq, UAE remain in touch with the concerned authorities regarding the missing Indian national and for early repatriation of mortal remains of the deceased after completing requisite formalities." He added that Indian missions in the region are open round the clock and are providing support to citizens affected by the conflict. He also shared details about an attack in Sohar where two Indians were killed and ten others were injured. According to officials, none of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. The Embassy of India in Oman is in constant contact with local authorities, companies, hospitals and the families of the victims to provide assistance and arrange the return of the deceased to India. Mahajan further said that support is also being provided to Indian seafarers in the region, with close coordination between the External Affairs Ministry and the Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways India. Meanwhile, the government is helping Indian nationals in countries such as Bahrain and Kuwait where direct flights are currently unavailable by arranging visa extensions and transit visas through Saudi Arabia for their journey back to India. The developments come as tensions continue to escalate in West Asia, raising concerns over regional stability and global energy routes.
