Election Theft” Row: Rahul Gandhi Targets BJP

New Delhi, May 5, 2026 The political temperature has risen as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi levelled serious allegations regarding the conduct of elections in Assam and West Bengal. Framing the issue as a threat to democratic integrity, he claimed that these elections were “stolen” and suggested that the process was not carried out fairly, bringing the role of institutions under scrutiny. Backing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Rahul Gandhi echoed concerns that over 100 seats in the state were “stolen.” He indicated that such patterns have been observed in previous elections as well, reinforcing his argument that the credibility of the electoral process is being undermined. These remarks have intensified the ongoing debate around transparency and fairness in elections. Opposition parties continue to question the integrity of the system, while the ruling party and election authorities have consistently dismissed such allegations, maintaining that the process remains free and fair. With election results already heightening political competition, such accusations are expected to further deepen divisions. While the BJP celebrates its electoral gains, the opposition’s stance signals continued confrontation, pointing to a more charged political environment in the days ahead.
