CBI Registers FIR in Alleged NEET-UG 2026 Paper Leak Case, Launches Nationwide Probe

Lucknow, 12 May, 2026 09:21 PMNew Delhi, May 12: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the alleged paper leak and irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 examination, following a written complaint from the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
According to the CBI, the case has been registered under charges related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, theft, and destruction of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The FIR also includes provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2026 examination was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 3, 2026, across the country for admissions to undergraduate medical courses.
As per the complaint, the NTA received information and complaints regarding the alleged unauthorized circulation of certain documents related to the NEET-UG 2026 examination before the conduct of the examination. The allegations have raised concerns over a possible compromise of the sanctity and integrity of the examination process.
The CBI stated that it has initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine the nature and extent of the alleged irregularities and to identify the individuals and entities involved in the matter.
To expedite the probe, special CBI teams have been constituted and dispatched to multiple locations across the country for investigation and evidence collection.
The agency reiterated its commitment to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation to bring the culprits to justice and ensure accountability in the case.
