Bharat Khera Takes Over as MSME Secretary

New Delhi, May 1, 2026 In a key administrative development for India’s small business ecosystem, Bharat Khera has assumed charge as the Secretary of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The appointment comes at a time when the sector continues to play a vital role in driving economic growth, entrepreneurship, and employment across the country. Khera is a 1995-batch IAS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre and brings extensive experience of over 30 years in governance across both central and state administrations. Prior to this role, he served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs, where he handled important policy responsibilities. Throughout his career, he has held significant positions in the Ministry of Defence and the Cabinet Secretariat, contributing to policy formulation, administrative coordination, and national-level initiatives. He has also worked in senior roles within the Himachal Pradesh government, overseeing multiple departments and key governance areas. With his new responsibility in the MSME Ministry, Khera is expected to focus on strengthening policy implementation and supporting initiatives aimed at boosting the growth, efficiency, and resilience of India’s MSME sector, further reinforcing its importance as a backbone of the national economy.
