New Delhi | March 24, 2026 Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday extended their greetings to the personnel of the Assam Rifles on its 191st Raising Day, praising their dedication and service to the nation. Both leaders acknowledged the force’s vital contribution in protecting India’s northeastern borders and maintaining internal security in challenging conditions. In a message shared on social media, Amit Shah highlighted the dual role played by the force. He appreciated their efforts not only in safeguarding borders but also in building trust among local communities through humanitarian initiatives. He also paid tribute to the personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, calling their sacrifice a symbol of true patriotism. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasised the strategic importance of the Assam Rifles in India’s security framework. He noted that the force has consistently ensured stability and safety in the Northeast, often working in difficult terrains. Their unwavering commitment, he said, continues to strengthen the country’s defence system and inspire confidence among citizens. Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid tribute, referring to the force as the “Sentinels of the Northeast.” Known as one of India’s oldest paramilitary forces, the Assam Rifles has built a legacy of discipline, courage, and service, playing a key role in both defence operations and humanitarian efforts across the region.
