Nepal Backs Stronger India Ties, Calls for Open Dialogue on Border Issues

New Delhi, June 7, 2026 Nepal has signalled its intent to deepen engagement with India, emphasizing cooperation, economic growth, and mutual trust. Highlighting India's growing global influence, Nepal's Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal said the two neighbours should focus on building a future-oriented partnership that benefits both nations and strengthens regional stability. Khanal noted that Nepal is keen to expand collaboration with India across key sectors, including energy, connectivity, trade, and digital development. He described India as Nepal’s most important partner and stressed that closer economic cooperation can create new opportunities for growth and prosperity on both sides of the border. On the long-standing border dispute between the two countries, Khanal advocated for constructive engagement and peaceful discussions. He said both sides should approach the issue with an open mind and mutual respect, adding that dialogue remains the most effective way to resolve outstanding concerns and strengthen bilateral understanding. Reaffirming Nepal’s commitment to positive relations, Khanal said the country does not hold any grudge against India and wants to move forward by building on the deep historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties shared by the two nations.
