Bengaluru Police Detain Man Over Suspected TTP Links

New Delhi, August 15, 2026 Bengaluru Police have detained a 25-year-old West Bengal resident over alleged suspicious online activity and suspected links with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The case has raised security concerns as investigators examine whether the man had been attempting to establish contact with a terror organisation and explore plans for retaliatory attacks against the Pakistan Army and in India. The detained man, identified as Asafool Mallik, is from Naopara village in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. He had been living near APC Circle in Jigani and working as a security guard at Tata Advanced Limited in the Jigani Industrial Area since December 2025. Police reportedly became aware of his activities while conducting patrols in the Bommasandra Industrial Area and subsequently questioned him. During questioning, Mallik allegedly said he was angry over what he believed were atrocities committed by the Pakistani military against Muslims in Pakistan, including attacks on mosques and civilians. He also allegedly expressed anger over Pakistan’s position on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Police said Mallik was allegedly being encouraged to retaliate if Muslims faced difficulties in India. Police said Mallik had allegedly connected with an Afghanistan-based person identified as Imran Haider through Facebook, who is believed to have links with the TTP. Mallik allegedly sought Haider’s assistance in travelling to Afghanistan and had applied for a visa, but later dropped the plan due to financial difficulties and family responsibilities. A search of his mobile phone allegedly uncovered chats, voice calls and audio conversations with Haider. Investigators are now examining these materials to establish the extent of the alleged connection and determine whether any further plans or activities were discussed.
