Uttarakhand Reshuffles Top Police Leadership, New IG Appointed for Kumaon

Lucknow, 5 Jun, 2026 11:02 PMDehradun: In a significant administrative reshuffle within the Uttarakhand Police, the state government has reassigned responsibilities among nine Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The move is aimed at strengthening key policing, law and order, traffic management, disaster response, and modernization functions across the state, with several senior officers receiving new assignments.
According to orders issued by the government, IPS officer Nivedita Kukreti, who was serving as Special Secretary in the state administration, has been appointed as the Inspector General (IG) of Kumaon. She replaces Riddhim Agarwal, who has now been entrusted with the responsibilities of IG Crime and Law & Order as well as the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).
IPS officer Krishna Kumar VK has been assigned the charge of IG Traffic and Government Railway Police (GRP).
The government has also withdrawn the additional responsibilities of IG PAC and Secretary of the Police Sports Control Board from IPS officer Nilesh Anand Bharne.
Meanwhile, IPS officer Sunil Kumar Meena has been given charge of Personnel, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and Secretary of the Police Sports Control Board.
Further changes include the appointment of IPS officer Yogendra Singh Rawat as IG of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). IPS officer Barinderjit Singh, who recently returned from deputation, has been assigned the responsibilities of IG Headquarters and Police Modernization.
The latest reshuffle reflects the government's continued efforts to streamline the functioning of the police department by placing senior officers in key operational and administrative roles. The changes are expected to enhance coordination, improve institutional efficiency, and strengthen policing across Uttarakhand.
