Uttarakhand Mourns Loss of Shooting Icon Jaspal Rana

Dehradun, June 12, 2026 The Indian sporting community is mourning the loss of celebrated shooter Jaspal Rana, whose achievements and dedication helped shape the country’s shooting legacy. His passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes, with leaders and sports personalities remembering his contribution both as an athlete and mentor. Expressing grief, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the loss was deeply painful for the state and the nation. In his message, he stated, “The news of the sudden demise of Shri Jaspal Rana ji, the pride of the Indian shooting world, is extremely painful.” He described the Padma Shri awardee as a distinguished son of Uttarakhand and said his absence would leave a lasting void in the sporting world. Recalling Rana’s journey, Dhami said the shooter made exceptional contributions to Indian shooting and inspired generations of young athletes through his accomplishments. He added that Rana’s success brought recognition to India on international platforms and that his dedication, achievements and values would continue to guide future generations. Jaspal Rana was recognised as one of India’s most accomplished pistol shooters and later earned respect as a coach. He also played an important role in mentoring Manu Bhaker during her historic twin bronze medal achievement at the Paris Olympics. He passed away after facing cardiac-related health complications, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Indian sport.
