IMD Issues Weather Warning for Uttarakhand, Orange Alert for Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain from April 28

Dehradun, April 27, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for Uttarakhand, forecasting rising temperatures on April 27 followed by thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, intense rainfall and gusty winds in several districts on April 28 and 29.


For April 27, a Yellow Alert has been issued as maximum temperatures are expected to remain appreciably above normal across parts of the state.


For April 28, the IMD has issued an Orange Alert for isolated places in Nainital, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. These areas are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, intense to very intense spells of rain and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph.


A Yellow Alert has also been issued for the remaining hilly districts of Uttarakhand, where thunderstorms with lightning, intense rainfall and gusty winds are likely at isolated locations.


Meanwhile, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts are also expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph at isolated places.


For April 29, an Orange Alert has been issued for Nainital, Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. These areas may witness thunderstorms with lightning, hail, intense to very intense spells of rain and gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph.


The weather department has advised residents, tourists and pilgrims to remain cautious, avoid open areas during thunderstorms, and follow official advisories, especially in hilly and vulnerable regions.
