HUDCO Boosts Advanced Eye Care at Vivekananda Netralaya with New Surgical Systems

Lucknow, 3 Jul, 2026 08:58 PMDehradun: In a major step towards strengthening eye care infrastructure in Uttarakhand, Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited has installed two advanced ophthalmic systems at Vivekananda Netralaya under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The new equipment was inaugurated on Friday at the hospital’s OPD Hall, aiming to improve access to quality and affordable eye care services for patients across Uttarakhand and the Himalayan region.
The newly installed systems include the Alcon Centurion Vision System with Active Sentry, an advanced phacoemulsification machine designed to improve the safety, precision and efficiency of cataract surgeries, and the ZEISS Lumera i Surgical Microscope, which offers enhanced visualization for complex ophthalmic procedures.
Officials said the addition of these advanced systems will significantly strengthen the hospital’s capacity to perform safer and more precise eye surgeries, particularly cataract and other complicated ophthalmic procedures.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior HUDCO officials, including Sanjay Bhargava, Regional Chief of HUDCO Dehradun, Vaijayanti Mahabale and Ashish Akkaiah Gundala from HUDCO’s CSR Department, along with Abhijeet Sarkar, Deputy General Manager of HUDCO Dehradun.
Welcoming the guests, Swami Asimatmananda, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, appreciated HUDCO’s support and highlighted the institution’s commitment to delivering affordable and quality eye care services to the public.
Technical presentations were delivered by Dr. Gaurav Shah, Deputy Medical Superintendent, and Dr. Alankrita Murlidhar, Vitreoretinal Surgeon, who explained the clinical significance and capabilities of the newly installed equipment.
As part of the programme, HUDCO officials also unveiled a CSR commemorative plaque, toured the hospital facilities and distributed fruits to patients.
Vivekananda Netralaya currently performs nearly 18,000 cataract surgeries annually and provides treatment to over one lakh patients every year. Hospital authorities said the new technology will further enhance its ability to provide advanced, affordable and accessible eye care to thousands of patients.
The management of Vivekananda Netralaya expressed gratitude to HUDCO and acknowledged the leadership of Sanjay Kulshrestha and M. Nagaraj for promoting healthcare-focused CSR initiatives across the country.
