Lucknow, 21 Feb, 2026 08:38 PMNew Delhi | 21 Feb 2026 Security has been stepped up across several sensitive religious and heritage locations in Delhi after intelligence inputs warned of a possible terror threat. Areas around the Red Fort and parts of Chandni Chowk have seen increased police presence following alerts issued by central security agencies, officials said on Saturday. According to sources, intelligence agencies flagged a possible explosion threat near the Red Fort, a major tourist destination and high-security zone. The inputs suggested that Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba has allegedly kept prominent religious places in India on its target list. Specific information also pointed to a temple in the Chandni Chowk area as a possible target, though officials said the inputs are still being verified. Based on the alert, security arrangements have been strengthened around crowded public areas and sensitive religious places. Central agencies and the Delhi Police are working in close coordination, with enhanced CCTV monitoring, vehicle checks, and deployment of additional personnel. Bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and quick reaction teams have been kept on standby at key locations to respond swiftly to any emergency. Officials said the threat may involve an “Improvised Explosive Device”-based attack and could be linked to attempts to avenge the February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad. The alert also comes against the backdrop of the deadly car explosion near the Red Fort in November 2025, which killed almost 13 people and injured over 20. Authorities have urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activity, while stressing that there is no need for panic and precautionary steps are already taken.
