Chhattisgarh Tables ₹1.72 Lakh Crore Budget for 2026–27, Focus on Inclusive Growth and Future Readiness

Chhattisgarh | 24 Feb 2026 The Chhattisgarh government on Tuesday presented a ₹1.72 lakh crore budget for the financial year 2026–27, laying strong emphasis on inclusive development, infrastructure expansion, and investment-led growth. The budget was tabled by Finance Minister OP Choudhary, who said the government aims to balance social welfare with capital expenditure while strengthening agriculture and promoting a digital-first industrial policy. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described the budget as a long-term roadmap for the state. “The Budget for the financial year 2026–27 is a statement of intent for Chhattisgarh’s future and a foundational step towards our Vision of Viksit Chhattisgarh 2047. With record investments in agriculture, infrastructure, women’s empowerment and industrial expansion, we are building the structural strength required for sustained double-digit growth,” he said. He further added, “Our focus is firmly on inclusive development—ensuring that Bastar, Surguja and every village of the state actively participate in and benefit from this transformation.” A major highlight of the budget is its strong focus on the social sector, which accounts for 40 per cent of the total expenditure. Around 36 per cent has been earmarked for economic development, while 24 per cent will go towards administrative and general services. The government also announced the launch of the Rani Durgavati Scheme, under which girls will receive ₹1.5 lakh on attaining the age of 18, aiming to support education and financial security for young women. The budget also includes several region-specific and development-focused initiatives. Two ‘Education Cities’ will be set up in Abujhmad and Jagargunda in the Bastar region with an allocation of ₹100 crore, marking a shift towards education-led development in areas once affected by extremism. The state has proposed a 50 per cent exemption on property registration fees for women, allocated ₹50 crore for new medical colleges in Kunkuri, Manendragarh and Dantewada, and set aside ₹10 crore for the Bastar and Surguja Olympics to promote sports and cultural activities across the region.
