UP Cabinet Expansion: Caste Balance and Political Strategy Shape New Ministerial Picks

New Delhi, May 10 , 2026 The upcoming expansion of the Uttar Pradesh cabinet under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is being viewed as a carefully planned political move focused on caste balance and electoral strategy ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. With around six ministerial positions currently vacant, the reshuffle is expected to increase the size of the cabinet to nearly 60 ministers. According to reports, the expansion is not just administrative but also politically significant, with strong emphasis on maintaining caste and regional representation. The move is seen as an attempt to strengthen the BJP’s social coalition by including leaders from different communities, including OBC, Dalit, Brahmin, and regional groups. Several names have emerged as potential inductees in the new cabinet. Among them are Pooja Pal, Manoj Pandey, Krishna Paswan, Bhupendra Chaudhary, and Ashok Katariya, along with other leaders representing diverse social backgrounds. The inclusion of leaders like Pooja Pal, who is seen as a Dalit and women representative face, is being highlighted as part of this broader political balancing strategy. The cabinet expansion is being closely watched as a significant step in shaping Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape. Beyond administrative needs, it reflects a calculated effort to strengthen electoral positioning and address caste equations, setting the tone for the upcoming political battle in the state.
