Lucknow, 7 Apr, 2026 09:06 PMLucknow/Mainpuri, April 7, 2026: Mainpuri, a land shaped by the legacy of the 1857 uprising, is set to gain a new cultural identity with the development of a ₹63-crore cultural centre. The project builds on the region’s historic association with Maharaja Tej Singh Judev of the Chauhan dynasty, who led resistance against British rule from his fort. The upcoming centre aims to bring that legacy into a contemporary space where history, culture and creativity converge. The cultural complex is being developed across approximately 25,544 square metres near the historic Tej Singh Fort, with strong road connectivity to ensure easy public access. The design focuses on functional spaces, smooth visitor movement and the ability to host multiple activities under one integrated campus. The project includes a museum, exhibition zones, an open-air amphitheatre, an experimental theatre, a library, hostel facilities and a cafeteria. A key highlight will be an 800-seat modern auditorium designed to host conferences, performances and large cultural events. Dedicated galleries will showcase local art, sculptures and crafts, offering visibility to regional talent. A separate museum block will house curated exhibition galleries, workshop spaces and a musical fountain, along with interactive areas for visitors. Retail spaces within the complex will promote local crafts and products, linking culture with livelihood opportunities. Officials say the centre is expected to serve as both a cultural and economic anchor for the region, encouraging tourism while supporting local artisans and creative communities. Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said the initiative is aimed at creating a living cultural space. “The cultural centre in Mainpuri is a significant step towards preserving our heritage while giving it a contemporary platform. It will serve as a space where traditions are experienced, talent is nurtured and visitors connect with our roots,” he said. Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Culture and Religious Affairs, Amrit Abhijat, said the project is part of a broader state-wide push to strengthen cultural infrastructure. “We are developing a network of cultural centres and museums across districts to bring heritage closer to people, especially the youth. Mainpuri’s centre will combine history, design and community engagement, creating a space that not only preserves the past but also encourages participation, learning and local economic activity,” he said. With heritage at its core and modern infrastructure taking shape, the Mainpuri cultural centre is set to emerge as a vibrant destination for students, artists, cultural groups and travellers looking to engage with Uttar Pradesh’s living traditions.
