“When It Is About the Party, He Is My Boss”: PM Modi Welcomes Nitin Nabin as BJP’s Youngest National President

New Delhi, January 20, 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday delivered a wide-ranging and inspiring address at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi as Nitin Nabin officially took charge as the party’s new national president. The occasion marked a significant moment in the BJP’s organisational journey, with 45-year-old Nabin becoming the youngest-ever national president of the party.

Addressing senior leaders, ministers, and party workers, PM Modi congratulated Nitin Nabin on behalf of millions of BJP workers across the country. Describing the BJP as the world’s largest political party, the Prime Minister highlighted that its strength lies in discipline, dedication, and a strong organisational culture built over decades. In a remark that drew attention, PM Modi said, “When it is about the party, Nitin Nabin is my boss,” underlining that he considers himself first and foremost a party worker, regardless of his position as Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister repeatedly stressed the importance of generational leadership. Calling Nitin Nabin a “millennial” leader, PM Modi said the new president represents a generation that has witnessed India’s transformation at multiple levels. He noted that Nabin belongs to a generation that grew up listening to the radio and is now actively using artificial intelligence, symbolising India’s rapid social and technological change. According to PM Modi, Nabin’s youthful energy combined with his long organisational experience will benefit every party worker and strengthen the BJP in the years ahead.

PM Modi also placed Nitin Nabin’s appointment in the context of the next 25 years, which he described as a crucial period for building a developed India. He said the BJP has the responsibility to guide the nation during this decisive phase and expressed confidence that the new party chief will carry forward the party’s legacy with dedication and vision. Emphasising continuity, the Prime Minister said the BJP’s leadership tradition has always been based on service, experience, and rising from  zero to the peak  through collective effort.

During his speech, PM Modi acknowledged the contributions of outgoing BJP president J.P. Nadda and other former party presidents, thanking them for strengthening the organisation and expanding its reach. He also drew a sharp contrast between the BJP and its rivals, describing the BJP as a “party of governance” rooted in ideology and public service, while taking an indirect swipe at the Congress by calling it a party driven by a “dynastic model.”

Nitin Nabin, who hails from Bihar, assumed charge in the presence of senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister, outgoing president J.P. Nadda, and other top leaders. His elevation as the 12th national president was welcomed enthusiastically by party workers. In Patna, BJP supporters celebrated the moment by bursting firecrackers and expressing pride that a leader from Bihar has risen to the top organisational post of the party.

The leadership change is being seen as a signal of the BJP’s focus on blending experience with youthful leadership as it prepares for future political and organisational challenges.
