Turn BRICS Unity Into Concrete Global Results”: Modi

New Delhi, September 12, 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed the need for BRICS to strengthen its institutional framework and convert the grouping’s unity and consensus into concrete outcomes on the global stage. Addressing the BRICS India 2026 Summit, he said the bloc must prepare an ambitious agenda for the next 20 years while ensuring that its initiatives continue despite the annual change in presidency. Modi said, “We must convert our unity and consensus in BRICS into concrete results on the global stage.” He added, “For the next twenty years, we will have to work on a new and ambitious agenda,” emphasising that the process should begin by improving BRICS’ own working system. Highlighting the rotating nature of the BRICS presidency, the Prime Minister said, “The BRICS presidency changes every year, but our institutional momentum should not stop because of this.” He proposed the creation of a BRICS Continuity and Implementation Mechanism to ensure that decisions and initiatives remain on track across successive presidencies. Explaining the proposal, Modi said, “I propose a BRICS Continuity and Implementation Mechanism, under which all initiatives and outcomes can be followed up through a secure digital repository.” He further suggested that the repository could record a nodal point, deadline and implementation status alongside every decision, creating a structured system to monitor progress. The proposal reflects India’s push for a more consistent and implementation-focused BRICS framework, with stronger mechanisms to ensure that decisions made by the grouping translate into sustained action. By maintaining institutional momentum from one presidency to the next, BRICS could build greater continuity around its long-term agenda.
