PM Modi to Inaugurate Navi Mumbai Airport on October 8

Navi Mumbai, October 5, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport on October 8. Officials said commercial flight operations from the new airport are expected to begin in December. Cost and Ownership The airport has been built at a cost of ₹19,647 crore and is the second major airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, after Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The DGCA granted the aerodrome licence for the airport on September 30. Once all four planned terminals are completed, the total cost of the project is expected to reach around ₹1 lakh crore. The Adani Group owns 74% of the airport, while CIDCO, Maharashtra government’s land development authority, holds the remaining 26%. PM Modi’s Visit Plans CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal said PM Modi will arrive at the airport around 2:40 PM on October 8 and will stay for almost two hours. During his visit, he will tour the terminal building and address the audience. Airport Capacity The airport spreads over 1,160 hectares. Once all four terminals are complete, it will be able to handle 90 million passengers per year and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo, making it one of Asia’s largest aviation hubs. Currently, terminal one is ready and can handle 20 million passengers annually, 0.8 million metric tonnes of cargo, and has one runway. For comparison, Mumbai’s existing airport handles about 55 million passengers a year. When fully operational, both airports together will cater to nearly 150 million passengers annually, establishing Mumbai as a major global aviation hub. Key Features The Navi Mumbai airport will be the first in India connected to multiple modes of transport, including expressways, highways, metro lines, suburban rail, and even water taxis. It will be a green airport, with storage facilities for sustainable aviation fuel. It will also feature an Automated Passenger People Mover system to connect all four terminals internally, making movement within the airport faster and easier.
