Guwahati/Dibrugarh/Namrup, Dec 21, 2025 Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his two-day visit to Assam on Sunday with engagements focused on education, heritage, and industrial development. The day included an interaction with meritorious students, paying homage to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement, and laying the foundation for a major ammonia-urea fertiliser project in Namrup. The day began with a special session aboard the cruise vessel ‘Charaideo’ along the Brahmaputra River, where PM Modi met 25 outstanding students from schools across Assam. The 30-minute interaction centered on education, motivation, and leadership. Security along the riverfront was strengthened, and ferry services were suspended until noon to ensure safety. Following the student meet, the Prime Minister visited the newly constructed Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Guwahati to pay tribute to 860 martyrs of the Assam Movement, a six-year-long agitation against illegal foreigners that began in 1979. He toured the martyrs’ gallery, garlanded the statue of Khargeswar Talukdar—the movement’s first martyr—and honored the sacrifices that hold deep significance in Assam’s socio-political history. Later, PM Modi traveled to Dibrugarh and Namrup to perform the bhumi pujan for a Rs 10,600 crore ammonia-urea fertiliser plant. The project aims to boost Assam’s industrial growth, strengthen fertiliser supply for farmers, generate employment, reduce import dependence, and support regional economic revival. Officials emphasized that the plant would enhance local industries and agriculture, aligning with the government’s focus on farmer welfare and regional development. The day concluded with a public rally in Namrup, where PM Modi highlighted the importance of industrial projects in driving employment and economic growth. His first day in Assam saw the inauguration of the new terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, unveiling of an 80-foot statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi, and participation in a roadshow and public meeting in Guwahati.
