PM Modi Slams Congress Over ‘Traitor’ Remark, Calls It an Insult to Sikh Community and the Nation
YUGVARTA NEWS
Lucknow, 5 Feb, 2026 09:24 PMPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday strongly criticised the Congress in Parliament over a controversial remark made by one of its MPs in the previous session. Without naming individuals, the Prime Minister said a senior Congress leader was labelled a “traitor” simply for changing political views, calling the remark arrogant and deeply offensive. PM Modi said several leaders have left Congress over the years and joined other parties, yet none were called traitors. He questioned why this particular MP was targeted, saying it was because he was a Sikh. The Prime Minister described the remark as an insult not just to an individual, but to the Sikh community and their Gurus, adding that it reflected deep-rooted prejudice within the Congress mindset. He further said that the MP in question belonged to a family that had made sacrifices for the nation, and calling such a person a traitor was unacceptable. PM Modi expressed disappointment that no senior Congress leader came forward to express regret or say that such language was against the dignity of Parliament. Calling the use of the word “traitor” extremely serious, the Prime Minister said no country can tolerate its citizens being branded this way for political reasons. He concluded by saying that such behaviour would only harm Congress itself, as disrespecting communities and national sentiment weakens the foundations of democracy.
