PM Modi Launches ₹6,350 Crore Development Push in Varanasi

Lucknow, 29 Apr, 2026 02:17 PMVaranasi, April 28, 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand welcome in Varanasi during his two-day visit, where he participated in the Mahila Sammelan and unveiled a series of development projects.
The visit highlights a strong focus on infrastructure growth and women’s empowerment in his parliamentary constituency. During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated completed projects worth over ₹1,050 crore and laid the foundation stone for new projects worth more than ₹5,300 crore.
These initiatives span across key sectors including railways, roads, water supply, healthcare, tourism, and urban development, reflecting a comprehensive push for regional transformation.
Among the key completed works are road widening projects on the Varanasi–Azamgarh route, rail overbridges at Kazzakpura and Kadipur, a sewage treatment plant in Bhagwanpur, and rural drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The newly announced projects include sewerage and water supply schemes under AMRUT 2.0, a 500-bed super-specialty hospital, critical care units, and redevelopment of major ghats such as Assi, Dashashwamedh, and Namo Ghat, along with tourism development around Sarnath. Overall, the visit underlines a continued focus on accelerating infrastructure development and improving public services in Varanasi, while also emphasizing women-centric programs through the Mahila Sammelan.
The large-scale projects are expected to enhance connectivity, healthcare access, and tourism, contributing to the city’s long-term growth and modernization.
