Speaking during a joint press conference with Alexander Stubb, the Indian Prime Minister stressed the importance of diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for international law. During the interaction, PM Modi highlighted that both India and Finland share similar views on resolving international disputes peacefully. He stated, “India and Finland believe in rule of law, dialogue and diplomacy. Only military conflict cannot solve any issue, whether it is Ukraine or West Asia. We are both convinced that global institutions need urgent reform.” The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time when tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified, affecting several parts of West Asia. The region has witnessed a series of missile and drone exchanges in recent days, increasing fears of a wider conflict. According to reports, the current escalation began after joint military strikes by the United States and Israel targeted positions in Iran. These strikes reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei last weekend, triggering strong retaliation and escalating tensions across the region. In another major development linked to the conflict, an Iranian naval vessel, IRIS Dena, was reportedly struck by a missile on Wednesday near the coast of Sri Lanka, which is a neighbouring country of India. The attack caused heavy casualties among those onboard, further raising concerns about the widening impact of the conflict.
