India–Finland Talks Strengthen Global Partnership as PM Modi Calls for Peace Amid World Conflicts

Lucknow, 5 Mar, 2026 11:26 PMPrime Minister Narendra Modi held important discussions with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, in New Delhi to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. During the meeting, India and Finland exchanged several agreements in areas such as environmental cooperation, migration and mobility partnership, and statistics. The leaders also shared their views on regional and global issues and discussed ways to work together in international platforms. In his joint statement, Prime Minister Modi said that “the world is going through a phase of instability and uncertainty.” He pointed out that conflicts in regions like Ukraine and West Asia have created serious global challenges. The Prime Minister added that in such a situation, cooperation between India and Europe has become more important, and both sides are now entering what he described as a stronger and more promising phase of relations. Modi also said that India and Finland agree that military conflict alone cannot solve global problems. Referring to the situations in Ukraine and West Asia, he said both countries will continue supporting all efforts aimed at achieving peace and ending the conflicts as soon as possible. The Prime Minister also highlighted that at the beginning of 2026, a historic India–European Union Free Trade Agreement was signed, which is expected to boost trade, investment and technology cooperation between India and European countries, including Finland. President Stubb arrived in New Delhi on a four-day state visit to India and was welcomed by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh. This is his first visit to India as President of Finland. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, while Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan will also call on the visiting leader.
